Hello Members!

First, Writing.Com has setup its own Twitter channel. We're going to make reasonable attempts to tweet some updates, perhaps to feature some members here and there, contests, etc. So, if you're on Twitter, consider following Writing.Com!
          http://twitter.com/WritingCom

Second, if you're a Twitter user, you're going to love our new Daily Prompt channel. A new writing prompt will be tweet'd daily, just after midnight, begining October 6th! Check it out:
          http://twitter.com/DailyPrompt
(... This channel leads to the unofficial announcement that we recently acquired the WritingPrompt.Com domain name and soon plan to use it in our quest for world domin... err... to help writers write more... but more on that later.)

Third, if you're on Twitter... or Facebook, or MySpace, or whatever social networking site you use, remember that you can help spread the word about Writing.Com. (If you're looking to move your referral number up, spreading http://www.Writing.Com/?rfrid=YOURUSERNAME will help you ... and Writing.Com!)

Best wishes,
~~SM

Greetings Members,

Just a quick announcement of the new icons, which include our new Random Read feature.

First, you'll note the new icon row in the left hand column under our "Site Navigation" menus.

From left to right, the icons are for:
- Instant Messenger
- My Favorites
- Site News
- My NotePad
- Random Read!

* Please note that the new "My Favorites" icon link opens to a new slim window that you can keep around. With this new Favorites link, we'll be removing the now duplicate "My Favorites" link between "My Gift Points" and "My Feedback" in the horizontal navigation at the top.

Random Read will bring you to a random item that fits within these parameters:
- The author of the item is online!
- The author of the item is visible to you and is not set to private.
- The item is not restricted and is openly accessible to you.
- The item falls within your account's Content Rating Filter preference.
- The item is a static item.

... So, to get more Random Reads, be online and don't be hiding in private. *Smile*

Enjoy!

Greetings Members!

We've created a system to beta test the conversion of Rich Text Format (.RTF) files to WritingML formatted text.

About RTF from Wikipedia:
"The Rich Text Format (often abbreviated RTF) is a document file format developed by Microsoft in 1987 for cross-platform document interchange. Most word processors are able to read and write RTF documents." --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Text_Format

Specifically, you can easily export your MS Word (and other word processor files) to .RTF files using your word processor. You can then upload them to Writing.Com using our converter and most of the formatting will be converted to WritingML, including colors, bold, italics, etc.

The converter can only be accessed directly via the following URL:
          http://www22.writing.com/main/tools.php?action=rtfconvert

This is an early beta and there are still a number of issues to work out. We're opening this test period, though, because we're curious to hear about your results! For now, please use the comment area of this blog entry to provide us with any feedback. Also, if there's anything in particular you'd like us to look at it, your file and results will be given an ID # that you can give to us. Giving us the ID will allow us to look on the server at that specific result.

Enjoy,
~~SM

From the 26 members that submitted entries, the following are the winners of this year's run of "Limericks! Limericks! Limericks!...

1st: ruthking
         (See: "Invalid Item)
There once was a site on the net
Its purpose, the best of them yet:
With writing and games
No insults, no flames
And prizes to win and to get.

There once was a schoolgirl named Ruth
She feared her own pen; its the truth
On one fateful day
This site came to play:
Her words are now lucid and smooth.

That site's name is Writing Dot Com
As Ruth herself says, Its the bomb!
There ideas abound,
And help all around
Makes writing, for your mind, no qualm.

2nd: Nani - Blessed Indeed
WDC, you're really first rate!
Your birthday is cause to celebrate.
Another year older,
You're stronger and bolder!
In just nine years, you have become great!

Birthdays are special times of the year.
Parties and people full of good cheer.
So, for all that you do,
To help those who are new,
Thank you, from all of us is sincere!

3rd: Amelia Capponi
There once was a website for writing
Where the members all found it exciting,
For theyd write and theyd read
All the day, and then need
For the night just a little more lighting!

And this website then had celebrations,
And the contests all doubled donations
For the partyd begun
And briefcases had fun
Reading everyone elses creations!

Thanks to everyone who entered and congratulations to the winners! *Smile*
